The Institute of Medical Humanities and Social Sciences at the Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine was established in recognition of the fact that medicine is deeply interconnected with human life, society, and culture, and to foster interdisciplinary reflection and inquiry in this context. The Institute brings together researchers from diverse fields—including medicine, theology, literature, history, philosophy, science and technology studies, and the social sciences—to establish the theoretical foundations of the medical humanities and social sciences, to promote reflective practices essential in clinical settings, and to cultivate a human-centered culture of care. Furthermore, drawing on the intellectual tradition of the Catholic Church, the Institute seeks to contribute to vital research for training healthcare professionals equipped with empathy, communication skills, and critical thinking, grounded in the values of the dignity of human life and the holistic growth of the human person.
