About Catholic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Bank
The Catholic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Bank was established in January 1994 to provide patients with hematologic disorders, such as leukemia, the opportunity for a cure through unrelated-donor hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The Bank consists of the following departments: the Donor Recruitment Department, which promotes stem cell donation and registers potential donors; the Cord Blood Bank Department, which collects, processes, and stores donated umbilical cord blood; the Transplant Coordination Department, which matches donors with patients in need of stem cell transplants; the HLA Testing Department, which conducts HLA genotyping of stem cell donors and donated cord blood units; the Research & Development Department, which carries out immunogenetics-related research; and the Administration Department, which oversees the Bank’s administrative operations.
